Obituary of Irene Elizabeth Schwartz

Irene E. Schwartz (nee Jackson), passed away April 4, 2017 at Compassionate Care in Hamilton Twp, NJ. She was 91. She had resided at The Clare Estate, Bordentown City since 2010. Born and raised in Camden, NJ, Irene was the daughter of the late Elizabeth (nee Przepiora) and Anthony Jackson. A graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in its first class, Irene pursued legal secretarial training at Drexel University on scholarship. Happily married to Walter Schwartz for twenty years, Irene was widowed in 1987. Later in life she was the loving companion of the late Henry S. Wegner, whom she described as "The Love of Her Life." Irene took pleasure and pride in her work as a legal secretary, the profession that spanned her entire life's career. Her first professional experience was with Emanuel W. Beloff, then Assistant District Attorney for the City of Philadelphia. In succession, she served as secretary to Frank C. Propert, Esq., then the Borough of Haddonfield Solicitor, in his private law practice, and to M.F. Bloomenstiel, Esq., Attorney for NY Ship Building Corporation in Camden. She was a legal secretary in the private practice of William T. Cahill when Mr. Cahill served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing NJ's First Congressional District. Ultimately, Irene became the first Legal Secretary at the Delaware River Port Authority in Camden, NJ, where she served as secretary to John E. Yeomans, Esq., the acting attorney on premises for the Authority. In later years, she worked in the Financial Department of Monroe Township as well as secretary to Emery Zold. Ms. Schwartz is survived by her sister, Elizabeth Holland-George of Pennington, NJ, three nieces and four nephews: Cynthia Holland of Pennington, NJ; Elise Holland-Carroll of Mill Valley, CA; Christopher Holland of Hopewell Twp, NJ; Timothy Holland of Alexandria, VA; Matthew Holland of Madison, NJ; Roger Jackson of DE; and Deborah Jackson of London, UK. She is also survived by five great-nephews and six grand-nieces. Predeceased by her brothers Frank, Warren, and Ralph. At Irene's request, funeral services will be private. Burial in Harleigh Cemetery, Collingswood close to her husband Henry, her mother and her brother Ralph.
